Preparing to Perform

With the lights off and the actors absent the theatre laboratory can seem a cold, uninteresting place. Yet with imagination we can picture here the early stages of a performance coming together. Warm-up exercises, early readings and run-throughs all get undertaken with a spirit of group unity.

The noises from outside are muffled as the stresses of everyday life remain beyond the closed doors. The space represents a playground, a training room, a building site even, with actors and the director laying the foundations for the eventual performance. Creativity and creation meet as those present offer individual talent and a sense of teamwork to the process.

As with any training location, mistakes made here are looked upon as crucial learning opportunities. Performance success becomes possible when barriers and interference to reaching our best have been eliminated through practice and our full potential gets applied to desired task at the required moment.
